Many people often wonder what “TMO” means in the post office. TMO actually stands for “Transit Mail Office,” which is a crucial hub in the postal system. TMO is a part of the Railway Mail Service (RMS) and is responsible for handling closed bags only.

In simpler terms, TMO ensures that your mail reaches its intended destination by navigating through the postal network efficiently. So, the next time you see TMO in a postal tracking update, know that it’s a sign that your mail is making its way through the system to get to you as quickly as possible.

In 2023 India Post GDS (Gramin Dak Sevak) application form required candidates to fill in their “Post Preference Number.” This number is used to indicate the preference for the different posts available in the Gramin Dak Sevak recruitment.

Candidates are usually presented with a list of available posts in various regions, such as Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster, and Dak Sevak, among others. They need to enter their preference for these posts by assigning a specific number to each choice. The candidate should rank their preferred posts in numerical order, with 1 being the first choice, 2 being the second choice, and so on.

For example, if a candidate prefers the post of Branch Postmaster the most, they would assign “1” as the Post Preference Number for that post. If their second preference is Dak Sevak, assign “2” to that post, and so on.

Tips & Advice while filling up post preference number in PostOffice GDS 2023 Application:
    1. Know your suitable Job work profile first. For example, if you like fieldwork choose ABPM Mail Deliverer post as your first preference & if you like office work then select BPM as your first choice.
    2. Choose according to salary, BPM posts have a higher salary than ABPM but make sure that GDS BPM has more responsibilities & higher workload than ABPM
    3. Always select the nearest post office first from your house.

In the post office context, GDS stands for “Gramin Dak Sevak.” In India, Gramin Dak Sevak refers to the hardworking individuals who serve as rural postal workers under the Indian Postal Department. Their primary responsibility is to provide postal services in the rural areas of the country.

The Gramin Dak Sevaks carry out various tasks, including delivering mail, selling postage stamps, handling money orders, and offering basic postal services to rural communities. They play a vital role in connecting rural areas with the rest of the country by ensuring the smooth delivery of letters, parcels, and other postal items.

What makes these GDSs special is that they are often local residents of the rural areas they serve. This enables them to have a deep understanding of the community’s needs and establish a personal connection with the people they serve. They act as a crucial link between the post office and the rural population, ensuring that postal services are accessible even in remote and less developed regions.

By diligently performing their duties, these dedicated Gramin Dak Sevaks contribute significantly to bridging the gap between urban and rural areas. They strive to make sure that people living in distant and underprivileged regions have access to essential postal services, thereby enhancing communication and connectivity throughout the country.

Specifically, GDS BPM in branch post offices is the highest post in terms of responsibilities. The minimum Salary of a GDS Branch Post Master (BPM) of a level 2 category is 12000 plus dearness allowances & other allowances. However senior GDS may receive higher salaries than a newly selected GDS due to annual increments.

Yes, it’s a government job but not a pure government job there are some limitations as compared to a normal central government employee. To clear doubts I have mentioned some rules from ” Department of Posts, Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020 “.

    1. GDS means Gramin Dak Sevak
    2. It’s a permanent job for 65 years. However, according to Rule 8 (1), if a Sevak has not completed more than three years of continuous engagement since their initial appointment, their engagement may be terminated at any time. This termination can occur through a written notice given by either the Sevak to the Engaging Authority, or by the Engaging Authority itself. Additionally, the notice can also be issued by any Authority that the Engaging Authority is subordinate to, or by any other Authority authorized by the Government through a general or special order, specifically pertaining to the Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS).

    3. According to Rule 3a (V) A GDS shall be outside the Civil Service of the Union and as per Rule 3a (VI) A GDS shall not claim to be at par with the central government employees.

    4. But you will get your salary based on TRCA along with Central Dearness Allowances & the percentage of DA is the same compared to Central Govt. Employees. Currently, the percentage of Central DA is 42% in 2023.
